Smoky chili con carne

Ingredients
- 3 Tbsp olive oil
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 750 g beef mince
- 1 Tbsp flour
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 Tbsp chipotle paste/sauce or to taste
- 2 Tbsp smokey kasi sauce (I use Woolworths' sauce)
- 2 tsp ground cumin
- 2 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 750 ml beef stock
- 2 tins chopped tomatoes
- 1 each red, yellow and green pepper, chopped
- 2 tins red beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 Tbsp cocoa
- salt and pepper to taste
- few fresh coriander leaves to decorate (optional)
- rice, grated cheddar cheese, tortilla chips and sour cream to serve
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a large non-stick pan or pot.
- Add the onions and fry them on medium heat for 5 min.
- Incorporate the beef mince and fry for a couple of minutes on medium to high heat.
- Dust the flour over the mixture and stir until all the flour is mixed in.
- Add the garlic, chipotle sauce or paste, the kasi sauce, cumin, paprika, cinnamon, oregano, beef stock and tomatoes; mix and cook for 15 min.
- Incorporate the peppers, beans and cocoa and cook for another 10 minutes.
- Check the seasoning and adjust with salt and pepper if necessary.
- Decorate with a few fresh coriander leaves (optional).
- Serve with rice, grated cheddar cheese, tortilla chips and sour cream.
Notes
If you unable to purchase smokey kasi sauce, you could use a smoky barbeque sauce instead; you might have to add a little bit of honey for balance.
