about me
"Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.”
Hello, nice to see you on my blog. Do you agree with Roald Dahl’s quote (taken from The Minpins)?
I totally and absolutely do. For me food is magic. Besides that, it keeps us alive. It is so much more. We look at it, we touch it, we smell and taste it. It conjures this “je ne sais quoi” smile on our face. One look at that person and you know, he or she is in heaven.
My love for food and cooking started as a teenager during these summer holidays in France. After a long and hot day at the sandy beach, we picked up that incredibly delicious, grilled chicken at a rotisserie, a fresh, oven-warm baguette from the bakery, a simple green salad, and these pretty, delicious-looking small pastries in the patisserie next door. Heavenly! Or we visited the food markets, which were almost everywhere. All sort of fresh produces, such as honey, veggies, fruits, pastries, poultry, cheese, and wine and whatever your heart desired was on display. Even if I think of it now while writing this text for my blog, I smile and feel happy and content. We usually prepared a simple meal, but it was the freshness and quality of the ingredients and the way the food was prepared that I still remember – it meant pleasure to me. I also frequently visited the food markets in Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands. And I still have happy memories of them.
Even if we don’t have widely spread food markets here in South Africa, a lot of fresh produces are available to prepare delicious meals with love and care. I hope your taste buds are tickling now and you can’t wait to try one of my recipes.
While I am sitting here and writing, my three dogs and my cat are all lying next to me – it is all so peaceful. At this moment my son is probably scouting the fridge in pursuit of something edible, while my daughter is transforming mangos, Greek yoghurt, and honey into a delectable lunch. Yum! And my poor husband is sweating in the gym, trying to keep in some sort of shape whilst thinking of what we will have for dinner later.
This is a new journey for me, and I am glad you walk with me. Together we will prepare a lot of new and also longstanding recipes with a twist – we never stop learning, hopefully. I am looking forward bringing joy and warmth with my recipes, stories, and inspirations into your kitchen.
Come and follow me into my kitchen…
